The Well Runs Deep
Musical Influence:
Appalachian Mountain rounds
Content influence:
Rusty pipe at Granville Island
I went to turn the tap on
The pipe was rusted up
So I walked to the top
Of the mountain
Where the old well used to be
No water could I see
Chorus:
The well runs deep
When the mountain's steep
When the well runs dry
The people die
The people cry
And the well runs deep
I yelled up on the mountain
I fell on to the ground
I cried on top of the mountain
No water can be found
Onto my knees I fell
I cried into the well
Chorus:
An old woman came a runnin
Why you crying dear?
Ain't no water on the mountain
We're gonna die up here
The woman cried
The woman fell
The woman cried into the well
(Chorus)
An old woman came a runnin
Why you crying dear?
Ain't no water on the mountain
We're gonna die up here
The woman cried
The woman fell
The woman cried into the well
Two old men came a runnin
Why you ladies cryin?
Ain't no water on the mountain
Soon we all be dying
The woman cried
The old men fell
All of them cried in the well
(Chorus)
Mountain folk came a runnin
Why we crying here?
Ain't no water on the mountain
We're gonna die up here
The woman cried
The old men fell
Mountain folk cried in the well
(Chorus)
A young child came a runnin
Fill my water cup
They looked onto each other
They looked into the well
Tears had filled it up
Water's flowin' on the mountain
It filled the child's cup
We all is living on the mountain
We all is crying tears
We all is living on the mountain
I guess we'll live here years
