In a cedar in Lebanon
If a golden robin sings
Would you dare to sing along?
If a young man lit a flame
Would you shelter the flickering light? If a young man lit a flame
Would you welcome the quivering life?
If a golden robin sings
Would you care to learn the words? If a golden robin sings
Would she sing like other birds?
If a phoenix rises up
From an Indiana fireIf a phoenix rises on up
Would you dare to take her higher?
If a golden robin sings
Would she sing in a golden key?If a golden robin sings
Would she sing in harmony?
If a single voice rang out
Would you join to form a choir? If a single spark was lit
Would you flame it to make a fire?
If the cedars of Lebanon were lost in a
burning blaze
If all the trees were gone, would you
move to a different place? If the people of Lebanon, were lost in waring rage
If all the love was gone, would you simply walk away?
Do you even know your place,
Your part in the human race?
When you see your brother's pain,
Do you turn away your face?
If you can't sing out, and you can't
join in
If you can't rise up, and you can't
beginIf can't hold your ground, and you can't be found
If you can't hang on or hang around
The robin still will sing
In a cedar in LebanonThe golden robin sings
And the world will still go on
When the golden robin sings
The morning can't be longWhen the phoenix rises up
And the robin sings her song
The trees will grow again
In Lebanon this springThe robin plants a seed
In the ground where martyrs bleed
The phoenix, the fire, the cedar, the
choir
More than these, the sun does not rise
higher
The sun bows down its rays to the earth
In homage to these and their rebirthThe cedars, the weak, and the phoenix go on
Theirs is the grist of the sweet robin's song.
